Position: Web Designer

Location: Piscataway, NJ

Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision from the Spectrum editorial team, design, develop, and maintain digital experiences, resources, and software for Spectrum online platforms including websites and applications, web publishing content management system customizations, and mobile applications. Support design principles, style guides, and best practices in technology and workflow. Managing priorities and workflow of online projects on a daily, weekly and monthly schedule.

Responsibilities:

• Perform quality control on all published material, checking and correcting format issues (editorial, design and imagery) so the final published story maintains Spectrum's high quality and brand identity.
• Import and export text and imagery assets as needed to produce web pages or content for print media.
• Maintain and develop templates for online edition as needed. Work with the vendor RebelMouse as required to create custom templates under the art direction of Spectrum art directors.
• Adjust and add HTML and CSS as required.
• Review and add links as requested by editorial team.
• Under the direction of an art or photo director, create responsive, interactive and landing pages.
• Coordinate with editorial, marketing, advertising, and other stakeholders on launch and distribution of site content.

• Ability to own a project from concept to completion.
• Ensure that projects are done on schedule.
• Must be able to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Qualifications

• • Minimum 3 years’ experience producing content-based websites.
  • Strong JavaScript, HTML and CSS skills (including working with libraries and frameworks).
  • Working knowledge of Angular, ReactJS, vanilla js.
  • Understanding of mobile-first responsive design concepts.
  • Experience with dynamic data and interactive visualizations preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug issues quickly.
  • Strong sense of Web Design and UX.
  • BFA, Graphic Design or Web design, or BA in related discipline.
  • Software: strong skills in Sketch (or Adobe XD) and Adobe Photoshop a must. • Working knowledge of Illustrator, InDesign, Bridge highly preferred.
  • Ability to take direction, work quickly, independently and efficiently under pressure handling multiple projects and maintaining a calm attitude

Skills favourable but not a requisite:

• Experience with Git.
• Knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Premiere.

Familiarity with video production and editing
