A Day in the Life of a Software Developer - Big Data Development formerly req13854

We're looking for a knowledgeable Software Developer to join the Test Access and Sensitive Data product team within the Enterprise Technology department's Data area as we advance our capabilities focused on helping the organization to protect and better understand one of its most valuable assets - its data.

Our Detective Controls team is responsible for monitoring State Farms development and test environments for sensitive information and alerting when a potential risk is detected. This is done through the use of two detective controls, Perimeter Monitoring and Data Scanning. Perimeter Monitoring identifies when improper data movement occurs and Data Scanning searches for actual sensitive data so that it can be addressed. Protecting customer, consumer and associate data is the cornerstone of this work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Knowledgeable in one of the following: Scala, Python Urban Code, GIT/Gitlab-CI

• Jenkins Experience with Linux OS Management (including running PuTTy navigating the file system/checking services,

command line functions

• Knowledgeable with Apache Spark framework

• Intermediate to expert level understanding of databases, data types, and data structures

• Familiarity with Hadoop and the Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, Cloudera Manager, HUE, Oozie, YARN)

• Familiarity with Enterprise RDBMS such as DB2 or Postgres

Qualifications

We Are Looking for Candidates With

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to navigate the organization and collaborate with geographically dispersed teams

• Familiarity with Splunk, including ability to create and support complex searches, alerts, and dashboards

• Familiarity with IBM Mainframe

• Familiarity with testing practices

• Familiarity with AWS and AWS Data Services

• Strong data analytics skills

This position will have an 18-month incumbency period, beginning on the effective date of the position, which must be met before the employee can post for any other lateral State Farm position. Employees may be considered for leadership or Technology Engineer openings at any time, and a promotional position within the same job structure (i.e. Professional/Technical or Para-professional/Support) after 6 months from the effective date of the position. In these cases, the remaining incumbency would be waived. The incumbency period does not affect the at-will relationship between State Farm and the employee and does not create an employment contract, nor contractual rights.
