Cox Communications is searching for a Design Engineer for the Network Automation and Shared Services team. This position is focused within the area of DNS with involvement in other critical network services. You will use a combination of skills in Operating Systems, IP Networking, Scripting/Development, Automation, and Service Assurance to support and enhance critical network services with both internal and external customers on Cox's nationwide service provider network. This will include but is not limited to the automation of troubleshooting/maintenance procedures, creation & development of dashboards for internal partners, and implementing "Event Driven" automation. We are looking for candidates who are creative, self-motivated, and driven as this position is afforded a great deal of autonomy to influence and grow the network services we offer.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
• Pro-active Network Service Design and Analysis to drive Reliability and overall Network Health.
• Act as Technical SME regarding DNS platform behavior and issues from both a design perspective as well as an escalation point from Operations and Care.
• Partner with application vendors and developers to understand platform performance drivers and optimize value.
• Help develop deployment and operational strategy for platform monitoring and management. Software/Tools could include Python, Ansible, Scripting, Git, Elastic ( ELK ), Time-Series databases, Event Driven automation, Machine Learning, etc.
• Strong troubleshooting and technical root cause analysis/resolution management skills of highly complex systems and network issues.
• Low level interaction with network teams on IP routing and switching technologies & vendors, specifically Cisco and Juniper; IP Routing Protocols: ISIS, BGP; IP Protocols: TCP, UDP, ICMP; IPv4 and IPv6 subnetting; Ethernet Technologies: VLANs, 802.1Q (VLAN tagging), 802.1P (layer 2 QoS), VRRP, HSRP; Anycast, QoS Capabilities: classification, marking, queuing, policing.
• Position will have the opportunity to work with the following partner domains of the Cox Network including: IP Routing, Applications Development, Business Network Services, Access Networks, Information Security, and others.

Qualifications:

Minimum:
• 5+ years of experience required in related field (i.e. Engineering/IT.). 3+ years of experience required if candidate possesses a related advanced degree (MS/MBA or above).
• 3+ years of experience with DNS/IPAM technologies (caching, authoritative, IP and namespace management, DNS-based security, etc.)
• 3+ years working knowledge of IP Networking and Protocols including TCP/IP routing and Network Architectures.
• 1+ year Automation/Scripting development work preferably in Python and/or Ansible.
• 1+ year experience leading projects or as a technical SME for matrixed projects in the domain of network services.
• Strong familiarity and use of Linux OS and Systems Administration concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and able to work as part of cross-functional teams.
• Experience using and configuring bind, Nominum, or other major DNS platforms.
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, listening, written, and verbal communication and collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout the organization.
• Excellent presentation skills; ability to distill and present actionable information from complex research or analysis to both teammates and leadership.

Preferred:
• BS/BA degree in related discipline (i.e. Engineering, Computer Science, or similar technical degree). Certifications: RedHat, CompTIA, LPI, etc.
• Experience in systems and network analytics, data mining, and/or machine learning experience.
• Knowledge of Bash, Python, Ansible, Scripting, DevOps, Git, RESTful APIs, JSON.
• Linux platform/application admin experience.
• Experience in telecommunications industry or large enterprise desired.
