Job Description

Description

SAIC is seeking qualified candidates to support the US Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation (AFAMS) program.

AFAMS is the premier agency responsible for implementation, integration, and development of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and training and analysis standards that support the US Air Force (USAF), Department of Defense (DoD), and mission partners requiring these capabilities to support the Warfighter in full-spectrum operations. As the lead agent for M&S within the USAF, AFAMS gathers requirements, seeks out potential solutions, and integrates legacy and emerging M&S solutions across the USAF and the DoD. The USAF has an M&S initiative that focuses on providing simulation and synthetic training as the critical capability to augment live training, act as an enabler for critical decision-making, and enhance human performance. In the current resource constrained environment, demand for M&S rises with the continuously evolving need for operational readiness and mission preparedness across the USAF, DoD, and with coalition partners. AFAMS focuses on providing innovative M&S services as the key to meeting this demand.

The role of this position is to support the Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS) team at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. The Cloud Engineer will:

  • Identification of, assessment of, and recommendations on new technology opportunities and pathfinder projects that address SCARS and simulator stakeholder needs.
  • As a minimum, update studies on the use of hypervisors for cloud-based simulation services; and data flow consolidations regarding centralized storage and provision of visual and sensor simulation data files used to represent terrain, features, and imagery.
  • Identify/analyze components eligible for technology flattening in support of standardized virtualization efforts.
  • Update tracking tools and reports on SCARS studies from numerous sources and analyze those studies to recommend a delineated critical path for SCARS implementation across the simulator community.
  • Update pathfinder projects to implement findings from studies on hypervisor data flow consolidation.
  • Efforts will include decomposition and design of simulation components from two (2) dissimilar simulation systems for implementation in a cloud environment provided by AFRL.
  • Update a reference architecture for further expansion of the pathfinder project into other simulations.
  • Advance a SCARS testbed capability within AFRL and produce assessments and recommendations of suitable technologies for incorporation into the testbed.
    • Assist with simulator reference architecture requirements definition and documentation
    • Interface between 711HPW/RHA and AFLCMC/WNS, Simulator Program Offices, AFRL/RIE, RHA and RIE contractors, and other organizations as required.
  • Update the common application environment to support SCARS and distribution of common applications to the simulator enterprise .
