Sr. to Lead Mechanical Engineer - Consumer Health & Wellness Startup

San Francisco, CA. You can work from home up to 3x/week.


The company's product involves consumer electronics, fitness, health & wellness. It is making a positive impact on people's health and quality of life.

The company has raised over $100 mil in funding, has about 70 people, and 20 engineers. It is rapidly growing.

The position requires experience shipping consumer products.

The company will pay a salary up to $220k, plus equity which could be lucrative.

Job Responsibilities:

- Architecting and completely designing electromechanical systems and metal and plastic components of consumer electronics products.

- Working with the crossfunctional teams such as Product, Electrical Engineering, Design, and Manufacturing to conceptualize, define, design, build, and test new products.

- Performing thermal, fluid and structural analysis of individual components and sub systems to achieve performance goals and drive system architecture.

- Performing tolerance analysis to verify performance of mechanisms and cosmetic specifications in the presence of high volume dimensional variation.

- Working with vendors and manufacturing teams to solve quality, cost, and yield issues from early design stages to mass production.

- Working with vendors and manufacturing teams to develop new manufacturing processes, tooling, and design assembly fixtures.

- Defining testing requirements, fixtures, and equipment to validate the mechanical design of components and assemblies for mass production.

- Performing design validation, verification, and characterization for initial prototypes, sub-assemblies, and final products.

 

Qualifications:

- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

- At least 3 years of professional experience with consumer product design, and a track record of shipping consumer products.

- Knowledge of injection molding, soft goods, sheet metal forming, and electromechanical systems such as pumps, fans, heat sinks, valves, and seals.

- Solid understanding of root cause analysis, DOE, GD&T, and other quality measuring techniques.

- Experience with 3D CAD Modeling and Simulation Tools for Thermal, Structural and Fluid Analysis (Solidworks, ProEngineer, etc.).

 

Nice to have:

- A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

- Experience working with production in Asia.

- 8+ years of experience.

- Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes, Design for Assembly (DFA), design for Manufacturability (DFM), tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing.
