Title: SQL Server DBA/Azure SQL/Synpase DBA

Location: Remote

The DBA Responsibilities include:
- Provisioning Azure SQL/ Synapse resources, including dedicated SQL pools and storage pools
- Responding, trouble-shooting and resolving Incidents, Service Requests and Change Tasks related to
- Creating/modifying Synapse objects and securing them with dedicated AD groups
- Creating/managing database roles
- Monitoring Synapse dedicated SQL pools performance
- Researching and trouble-shooting network connectivity issues on premise to Azure; within Azure
- Engaging vendor support
- Providing operational support
- Creating Management Reports from Synapse
- Performing Change Requests, e.g. Execution of predefined, tested DDL & programmability objects in Production
- Disaster Recovery and support DR testing
- Providing Azure Synapse infrastructure support to application team
- Coordinating with desktop packaging team for client tools used with Azure Synapse
- Creating documentation, e.g. standards/governance
- Assisting with creation of Automation scripts/jobs e.g. design/develop/maintain
- Requesting entitlements for security access and working with the Identity management team to automate requests and creation
- Creating and scheduling DBA jobs

Required Skills:
•5 + years MS SQL Server database administration experience
•Prior experience of SQL Server in Azure, Managed Instance/Azure SQL, in a 24X7 production support, development or test environments
•Experience with the provisioning/administration/operations of Azure SQL or Synapse Analytics/Dedicated SQL Pools
•Understanding and experience working with Active Directory/Azure Active Directory
•Previously experienced in a mid- to large-size firm and supporting multiple versions SQL Server environments
•Database security management, e.g. Design & implement Security framework, incl. database roles
•Experience creating Synapse resources, including schema creation
•Synapse Dedicated SQL Pool Workload Management
•Experience with Performance Analysis, query optimization & troubleshooting
•Experience using monitoring software
•Experience working with users to resolve issues
•Understanding network interactions, including on premise to Cloud
•Understanding and experience working with ETL/ELT and data migration tools
•Experience with the Azure portal, Azure PowerShell
•Experience supporting Azure or other cloud-based solutions
•Experience in PowerShell, TSQL
•Solid understanding of Database concepts
•Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills, an ability to use various data collection tools and methodologies to analyze problems, determine root cause and develop solutions
•Ability to follow standards
•Understands the importance of security
•Ability to perform operations DBA activities

Preferred Qualifications:
•Prior database administration experience with multiple database platforms across an organization, including Teradata
•Understanding and experience with CI/CD GitHub integration with Synapse
•Experience with automation of infrastructure services on Azure, e.g. automation scripts, ARM templates and tools such as Ansible
