Job Description

SQL Database Administrator

Location: Middletown, NY (option remote - prefer candidates in the East Coast)

Job Type: 3-6 months Contract to Hire

Primarily responsible for the coordination of assigned database resources. Provides strategic and technical leadership for the practices SQL infrastructure and projects. This position is involved in project planning, optimizing, database/application upgrading, and the designing of and planning for SQL based applications. Oversees the overnight maintenance, monitoring, backup and disaster recovery support for the production and development of the Practice’s databases.

Minimum of three (3) years of SQL Database support, preferably in a Healthcare environment.



  • Maintains Database Management Systems (DBMS).
  • Develops and enforces database administration and user standards and procedures.
  • Audits, modifies, and amends data in systems using SQL commands, hand-editing, and bulk import.
  • Participates in the scheduling of database projects, database and transaction log backups, notifications, and database replication between multiple SQL Servers and remote sites.
  • Participates in multiple projects, evaluates database server integrity and security.
  • Recommends Database Design.
  • Develops System Analysis and creation of SQL and Web-based databases and database systems.
  • Produces reports, documentation, and other materials required within the SQL environments.
  • Researches and implements new database and online technology.
  • Evaluates and learns new technology functions in order to extend practice functionality.
  • Performs diagnostic tests on software to determine and resolve systems related problems.
  • Provides database support and other business applications utilizing SQL as the database platform.
  • Creates, imports, refreshes, and clones database environment.
  • Monitors existing database system performance and recommends effective utilization of resources and emergency recovery procedures.
  • Communicates potential problems impacting performance.
  • Assists staff in developing procedures, forms, and database documentation.
  • Configures software utilized on database and Web servers.
  • Facilitates end-user access to management information systems directly by using Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and other methods of connectivity.
  • Creates database reports when requested.
  • Leverages best practice technologies while administering the Database infrastructure.
  • Interacts with technical consultants and vendors where appropriate.
  • Participates in systems maintenance including upgrades. Schedules preventive maintenance on assigned technologies.
  • Ensures and maintains databases and other documentation.
  • Performs IT functions as indicated by department guidelines.
  • Evaluates work environment to determine adequate technology usage and efficiencies.
  • Installs third party tools where required for the purposes of backup, recovery, monitoring and schema.
  • Schedules and participates in weekly change management calls.
  • Ability to administer multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff.
  • Participates in rotating after hours on call and weekend work as required.
