Job Description

The Principal Software QA Engineer is our top professional responsible for end-to-end test solutions, from strategy to implementation and ongoing improvements. The role has complete domain accountability including tools, processes, environments, vendor management, and execution of test cycles for ongoing technology development. The Principal will collaborate with peers and senior leadership, influencing the larger organization to develop the next generation of products for Coinstar. This is a dynamic and highly technically position requiring expertise in both manual and automation-assisted testing tools, with the opportunity to work on a wide variety of technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive collaboration across all partners to address functionality and performance of testing.
  • Responsible for the full lifecycle of test, validating code at the user and business-rule level, debugging problems both manually and with automated tools, including recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop test plans that approximate real-world environments to avoid defects or identify them early.
  • Manage vendors and enterprise Service Level Agreements (SLAs), keeping partners current on tools and processes, driving improvements, and raising issues to resolution when necessary.
  • Responsible for all Quality Assurance documentation, including tool and process guidelines, owning accuracy and organizational awareness.
  • Understand customer usage by monitoring field operations feedback and production issues to ensure total coverage by test scenarios and maintain an inventory of appropriate test devices.
  • Motivate, coach, and mentor team members on standard methodologies and alignment to policy, including team-level attainment of velocity and productivity goals in project and time tracking tools.
  • Participate in company long-range planning sessions, collaborating on technology, to ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Remain current with emerging technologies, influencing the future Coinstar landscape.
  • Role model Coinstar Competencies, holding self and others accountable.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 12+ years of software Quality Assurance engineering.
  • Testing on various platforms: websites, client-server applications, and backend web services.
  • Agile project management tools like Jira and Rally.
  • Working with test harnesses, test automation tools, and industry standard CI/CD tools.
  • Testing in cloud-based solutions like AWS and Azure.
  • Testing embedded systems or consumer electronic devices a big plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency with a major programming language; C# preferred, C++, Java, Python, Ruby are a plus.
  • Familiarity with Bitbucket, Visual Studio, TFS, Test Rails are a plus.
  • Familiarity with testing tools such as TestComplete, TestStudio, RationalRobot are a plus.
  • Familiarity with infrastructures such as Selenium Webdriver, TestNG, Karate, Cucumber are a plus.

Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, troubleshooting complex configuration issues.

High degree of comfort working with fluid requirements and constraints.
