The Linux Systems Administrator is responsible for a wide variety of tasks ranging from identifying opportunities for improving operational efficiencies and delivery, the design and implementation of robust and highly performant automated solutions, and operational support of Linux-based systems for on-premises and public cloud hosting infrastructures.
This is a full time position. Must be located in or near the Alpharetta, GA area. Required to be in the Alpharetta, GA office periodically.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build, maintain, and support complex and highly available Linux installations in a large scale hosted environment (on-premise and public cloud)
- Research, recommend and implement changes to standards and procedures to enhance automation/orchestration capability
- Patch Linux servers on a monthly maintenance window
- Participate in problem analysis, solution development/implementation across Sierra-Cedar business units
- Report on system availability, performance, licensing, and security compliance
- Respond within defined SLA metrics to issues logged in the company ticketing system
- Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation for research and resolution of production system problems
- Promote Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)
REQUIRED SKILLS
- 5+ years of experience as a Linux system administrator
- Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience
- Solid understanding of administrating Linux operating systems
- Robust operating system and network knowledge to carry out assigned administrative tasks with the need for limited supervision.
- Planning, installation, configuration, monitoring, and deployment of Linux Servers.
- Evaluating and applying packages and security patches on Linux servers.
- Reporting on system availability, performance, and security compliance.
- Respond within defined SLA metrics to issues logged in the company ticketing system
- Experience with automation tools such as Puppet, Ansible, Chef, etc.
- Scripting (Python, Bash, Perl, Shell scripting, etc.)
- Code Management and versioning utilizing GIT or similar code repository
- Effectively manage time and demonstrate innovative approaches to solving unique challenges
- Strong ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal oversight
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively and proactively across a large organization of dispersed teams
- Experience creating, maintaining, and communicating complex information technology documentation
- Looks for ways to improve and promote quality
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies, new products, service offerings
- All candidates must be comfortable working directly with customers and other Sierra-Cedar team members in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
- Vendor-specific certifications such as those from Red Hat, AWS, Terraform, or Puppet are a plus
- Experience with PeopleSoft applications is a plus
TRAVEL
No travel is required, but it does require one to come into our Alpharetta office.
