Lead Developer Job Description

Energy Texas is a Houston-based Retail Electric Provider with a focus on building a residential customer base in emerging deregulated energy markets, beginning with the Texas electricity market. The company was founded in May of 2021 and is a rapidly growing, well-funded early-stage business.

Energy Texas is looking for a Lead Developer to provide growth and success of our retail electric business. The Lead Developer reports to the CEO and will build out the technology team as the organization grows. This position will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team involved across all functions of the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Responsible for all phases of design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance, diagnosis and support of multiple full-stack object-oriented PHP 7 database-driven web applications. Works with management to define scopes, specifications, testing requirements, and timelines of desired functionality enhancements. Responsible for all security, deployment, maintenance, support, patching, upgrades, backups and uptime of multiple headless Ubuntu Linux servers with ZFS file systems in a cloud environment using traditional tools such as cron, vi, git, and ssh in a bash command-line environment. Extensive Apache, Postgres & MySQL administrative experience required. Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously in an iterative/agile/dev-ops development process in a small, results-oriented & aggressive organization.

Required server experience:

  • Postgres Database admin & architecture
  • MySQL Database admin & architecture
  • Apache http server administration
  • Ubuntu or Debian Linux administration
  • Linux command line competence
  • vi editor experience
  • PCI security familiarity
  • Git/Github source code control experience

Required Application/UX Experience:

  • PHP 7 object oriented application design & development
  • Code Ignitor (preferred) or other PHP MVC framework (acceptable)

Preferred App/UX experience:

  • Bootstrap & Responsive CSS
  • Javascript & AJAX
