Description :

This position will provide Tier 2 operational and maintenance support of all databases under the Information Technology Operations Support Services (ITOSS) contract.
The Database Administrator reports to the Active Directory-Exchange / Integrated Defense Group Technical Team Lead and manages the ITOSS contract's production databases. These databases host Windows applications to include SCCM, SCOM, BitLocker, BES12, ActiveRoles, WinMagic, Enterprise Vault, and other security tools. The DBA is responsible for data integrity, backup processes, to include maintenance plans, restorations, and upgrades to existing applications/databases. The DBA will devise, review and approve methods for monitoring, evaluating/reporting the performance of the database support services, and provide reports to contract and customer staff. As part of a continuous process improvement role, the DBA will play a critical role in reporting deviations, tracking and reporting error trends, and monitoring the results of training and other corrective measures.

Responsibilities :

• Analyze, maintain and optimize the operational environment; sustain capacity and performance requirements; consolidate and tune databases for optimal efficiency; maintain systems and platforms at 99% availability (outside of scheduled downtime); ensure data integrity through performance of daily, weekly, and monthly checklists for monitoring of logs, space checks, audit reports, and backups for preventative maintenance.
• Monitor and maintain security configuration settings and system modifications to ensure compliance with Information Assurance Vulnerability Alert (IAVA) mitigation actions and Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) guidance.
• Implement protocols and controls to secure sensitive personally identifiable information (PII).
• Prepare detailed reports which might include system requirements such as concurrent usage factors, data storage requirements, response rates, and discuss procedures for processing data using data base management systems (DBMS) including relational databases.
• Provide Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration support services to include performance tuning, applying patches, monitoring database capacity, reviewing and responding to alerts, maintaining database security controls, and managing the overall health and availability of databases.
• Direct and control activities for a client, having overall responsibility for financial management, methods, and staffing to ensure that technical requirements are met.
• Maintain and update the database architecture, including upgrading and installing database software.
• Provide recommendations on planned hardware OS and configuration upgrades/modifications on database servers to protect and verify data and database services are not impacted.
• Monitor systems and platforms for availability; oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, failover, and the restoration and recovery of corrupt databases.
• Perform database backups on a routine basis, validate backups and periodically test media integrity, along with startup and shutdown as required; periodically restore databases to test restoration procedures.
• Project long-range requirements for database administration and design in conjunction with other managers in the information systems function.
• Decision making, and domain knowledge may have a critical impact on overall project implementation.
• Maintain security documentation.
• Establish goals and plans that meet project objectives.
• Interaction with senior management.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call responsibilities.

Required Skills/Experience :

• Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
• 7 years of experience in IT support or related field.
• 4 years of experience administering MS SQL Server 2016 or later.
• Experience with MS SQL High Availability (HA) / Disaster Recovery (DR), including AlwaysOn Availability Groups and associated failover procedures.
• Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining complex databases with respect to access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.
• Knowledge and experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and front-end (e.g., COGNOS)/back-end programming languages (e.g., SQL).

Preferred Skills/Experience :

• Experience using ITSM ticketing systems, such as ServiceNow.
• Azure/AWS experience in both standing up and maintaining SQL instances in cloud.
• MCSA in SQL Database Administration - 2016 or older.
• ITIL v4 certified.
