Job Description:

The Data and Analytics team at Federal Reserve Bank of Boston (FRBB) has an exciting opportunity for a junior- to intermediate-level data analyst for data and analytics efforts in support of the Main Street Lending Program (MSLP). We are looking for someone with an interest in utilizing technical tools to provide analytical support and generate efficiency gains by improving manual processes. This position will be a good fit for someone who is interested in applying their technical and analytical skills to a highly impactful lending program that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to receive attention from senior leadership at FRBB and the Board of Governors.

Responsibilities will consist of: providing analytics for MSLP; automating output of manual reporting processes; responding to adhoc requests for data, statistics, visualizations, and other analyses. The primary source of data will be obtained via backend queries and some flat-file data extracts (Excel, csv). Data and analytics will be performed on a virtual Linux cluster environment that includes configured project management and git tools. This role will also require the development and maintenance of clear documentation.

An important responsibility in this role will be to effectively communicate compelling stories to help business lines better understand their data and enable data driven decisions. This role will work cross-functionally and requires the ability to operate with substantial latitude for action and will be a good fit for someone who is a self-motivated team player.

Knowledge and experience:

  • Typically requires 2+ years experience and a Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in any of these fields: mathematics, economics, statistics, data science/analytics or similar quantitative field
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively in a remote team environment
  • Applies judgment and critical thinking to solve problems
  • Examines problems and processes with a creative lens
  • Ability to quickly learn and use new tools, technologies, and methodologies
  • Proven ability to gather data and translate business requirements to provide appropriate analytical solutions to solve business problems, ranging from basic reporting to predictive analytics



Technical skills:

  • Proficiency in either R or Python (required; RMarkdown experience a plus)
  • Experience using git and related repository manager(s) (strongly preferred)
  • Experience in Linux environments (helpful)
  • Experience with front-end visualization tools, such as Tableau, RShiny (a plus)
  • Experience with agile software development workflow tools (a plus)
