Typically:
• Leads a team within a Competence Centre. Responsible for capability building within the teams competence area and for staff development of direct reports, with support and guidance from the CC Manager.
• Ensures optimal resource utilization within the team and leverages contractor resources when required, in alignment/discussion with the CC Manager. Implements the functional excellence agenda in the team in partnership with the CC Manager by leveraging Methods and Standards and provision of quality assurance against these. Contributes to the functional excellence agenda.
• Is the face of IT Capabilities across a single or limited scope of business domains, which is likely to be regional or local in geographical scope.
• Manages projects and programs, and supervises and coaches team members responsible for delivering projects.
• Provides advanced level of input concerning assigned scope of work.
• Has frequent exposure to and interaction with senior levels of business leadership (EC-2 and EC-3).
• Works independently under minimal managerial supervision. Delivers the work as assigned, applying the work procedures, frameworks. Guidance provided for those tasks where there are limited precedents available.

The Capability Centre Leader for Backend and Microservices development will play a key role in Shell IT’s mission of delivering value differentiating products to Shell’s businesses globally. This technical leadership role aims to deepen Shell’s development capability in all parts of the backend stack, be it DevOps, Databases, Backend logic. You will be responsible to support in driving the vision for software engineering technologies and processes across Shell and leading high-performance engineering teams to deliver customer-centric, value enabling business outcomes. A key aspect of your role will be recruit and develop talent from within the local market , consult with various businesses around potential cloud-native solutions to be developed.

Experience: -

• Seasoned Leader having 13-18 years of hands on experience in Design, Development and Implementation of scalable cloud-based web and mobile applications.
• Experience in Global role managing geographically distributed teams.
• Proven technology leadership experience (preferably on Micro services architecture) in broader Microsoft Stack with deep expertise in .NET and related frameworks & technologies (.NET Core, ASP.NET MVC, WPF, React, Node, Xamarin etc). Good experience in other Back-end tech - GoLang, Middleware – REST, GraphQL, GRPC, Databases - SAP Hana, Mongo DB, Cassandra, PostgreSQL etc.
• Knowledge of and skills in various programming languages include C++, C#, F#, GoLang, JavaScript and Java. Knowledge of JavaScript Frameworks - Angular, Node & React JS, etc.
• Knowledge of and skills in using various Azure and Amazon cloud services. Proven experience in building cloud-native apps on either or both of these cloud platforms
• Proven expertise in design, development and deployment of MS Azure (PaaS & IaaS) Services and applications using C#, Azure Functions, Azure Web-Apps, Azure Batch, Azure Data Factory, MS Azure Databases (Azure SQL, NoSQL, Cosmos DB and Data Lake)
• Worked in API first approach and expert in ensuring maximum reusability of APIs
• Experienced with working in Agile Scrum Methodology and use of tools like Azure DevOps or the Atlassian suite
• Experience in using CI/CD tools (Azure Pipelines, Circle CI, GitHub, Jenkins, Spinnaker)
• Knowledge of and experience in using Kubernetes and Docker containerization
• Good to have knowledge around data tools (Pachyderm, Argo) and data science languages and frameworks (Python, Julia, TensorFlow, Spark)
